This is the Come to Ours blog curated by
Josh Greet
Come to Ours is a programme of activity and events that celebrates and showcases the work of both emerging and established artists and curators. This artist-driven programme will temporarily occupy unusual and unconventional sites, spaces and contexts around Plymouth (UK), running alongside British Art Show 7 (Sept-Dec 2011) as part of Plymouth Fringe.
Come to Ours is devised and managed by a group of individual artists (Rachel Dobbs, Bryony Gillard, Mark James, Hannah Jones, Christopher Green, Beth Emily Richards and Neil Rose) who have come together to develop this special programme of events.
Come to Ours is supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and by Plymouth City Council.

In My Room by Rachel Dobbs
Video Installation, 2011
There’s a world where I can go / and tell my secrets to / in my room
In My Room is a video installation where a selection of found YouTube videos are edited together so that lone singers (who are usually strangers) sing with others. This collection of composite videos (made up of many different singers’ performances) includes a composite version of the Beach Boys song In My Room.
Rachel says: “Over the last few years, I have been fascinated by YouTube videos where people sing or play instruments, alone, in their bedrooms or other domestic spaces and broadcast this to the world via their webcams. To me this seems to be simultaneously a very intimate and public act.”
Repurposing these videos becomes a way to draw attention to the elements of our current socially-networked situation that could allow for our bedrooms to become our ‘whole world’ (as was the case for Beach Boys songwriter Brian Wilson for periods in his life) and to reflect on contemporary/changing notions of aloneness and togetherness.
