Plymouth Aural Survey will explore how people navigate the city of Plymouth whilst listening to music. The ‘results’ of Plymouth Aural Survey (the resulting audio-visual artwork) will communicate listening trends amongst pedestrians and how they link to the individual journeys of participants. During a 12 hour period of a single day, (at specified locations around the city) the artist (Neil Rose) will approach pedestrians who are wearing headphones and ask them a series of questions, such as “Where have you come from?” and “Where are you going?”. The artist will request to record 20 seconds of audio from the participants audio player. These recordings will be compiled (in real time or to an exact ratio) to recreate an audio canvas of the day, and will be mapped as a flash animation plotting the course of individual participants along with data from their questionnaire. The animation/audio canvas will be available online to download for free and will also be screened at selected venues around the city. Also dont forget to add Come to Ours on Facebook
Heres a sneak peak at the delivery that arrived today. Its the shinny new badges for Would you like this badge? But you will have to wait till september to get your hands on one.
Would You Like This Badge? takes an alternative, personal and handmade approach to typical slogans and taglines used to promote and brand a city. 300 specially designed badges (50 x 6 different designs) will be available from selected Plymouth pubs during Sept-Dec 2011.
The individual badges are developed in response to our experiences of living and working in Plymouth, thinking about how people view the city (from the inside and outside) and reflecting what is distinctive about this place.
“Passing a second-hand shop some objects in the window catch my eye - a star wars figure, an old yo-yo and a penknife. I remember my hidey-hole in the old family house; a boarded-up fireplace in my bedroom where I kept my treasured possessions, that were probably still there, waiting to be found. The memory brings a smile to my face, a smile that evaporates as I remember what else was hidden there.”
Steven Paige will be exhibiting in the fireplace gallery from October 2-9th 2011.
